Tenpower INR21700-50XG 21700 Battery Cell | 5000mAh 40A High Discharge
Tenpower INR21700-50XG High-Power 21700 Lithium-Ion Cell
5,000mAh capacity with serious high-current performance.
The Tenpower INR21700-50XG is a high-performance 21700 lithium-ion cell designed for battery systems that need both strong capacity and very high discharge capability.
Tenpower rates the 50XG at 5,000mAh nominal capacity, 40A continuous discharge without a temperature cutoff, and up to 90A continuous discharge when using a 75°C cell-temperature cutoff.
For short-duration high-power demands, Tenpower specifies a 140A pulse discharge for up to 3 seconds.
With internal impedance of ≤4mΩ, a maximum charge current of 15A, and a standard 21700 footprint, the 50XG is particularly well suited for high-performance e-bikes, electric motorcycles, robotics, drones, power tools, industrial equipment and custom high-current battery packs.

Why Choose the Tenpower 50XG?
40A Continuous Without Thermal Cutoff
Unlike cells whose highest advertised current rating depends entirely on thermal cutoff conditions, Tenpower specifies the INR21700-50XG for 40A maximum continuous discharge without a temperature cutoff.
Up to 90A With Temperature Monitoring
For engineered systems with active temperature monitoring, Tenpower specifies up to 90A continuous discharge with a 75°C cell-temperature cutoff.
140A Pulse Capability
The manufacturer specifies a maximum pulse discharge of 140A for 3 seconds, making the 50XG suitable for applications with very high short-duration power demands.
5,000mAh Capacity
The 50XG maintains a full 5.0Ah nominal capacity, with Tenpower specifying 4,950mAh minimum capacity under standard test conditions.
Ultra-Low Internal Resistance
Tenpower specifies AC internal impedance of ≤4mΩ at 1kHz, 25±3°C and 30% SOC, helping minimize voltage sag and resistive losses during high-current operation.
Fast-Charge Capability
Standard charging is 2.5A, while maximum manufacturer-rated charging current is an impressive 15A.

Cycle Life
Tenpower specifies:
500 cycles with ≥60% of initial capacity remaining under its high-load cycle test.
Manufacturer cycle test conditions:
- Charge: 6A CC-CV to 4.20V
- Charge termination: 100mA
- Rest: 10 minutes
- Discharge: 40A
- Discharge termination: 2.50V or 75°C
- Rest: 45 minutes
- Ambient temperature: 25±3°C
After 500 cycles under those demanding conditions, the manufacturer specifies at least 60% capacity retention.
That is important because this is not a gentle 0.2C cycle-life test. Tenpower is cycling the cell at 40A discharge.

Choosing Between Your High-Power Cells
This gives you a very good product ladder on ULS:
| Cell | Capacity | Continuous Discharge | Thermal-Controlled Rating | Pulse |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Amprius SA112 | 6,500mAh | 13A | — | 26A |
| Samsung 50S | 5,000mAh | High power | Temperature-dependent higher rating | High |
| Tenpower 50XG | 5,000mAh | 40A | 90A @ 75°C cutoff | 140A / 3 sec |
| LinkData 60P | 6,000mAh | High | 60A thermal-controlled | 110A / 10 sec |
The 50XG should absolutely go in both your 21700 Cells and High Discharge Cells collections.
Important High-Current Rating
The 40A and 90A ratings should not be presented as the same thing.
Tenpower specifies:
40A continuous discharge WITHOUT temperature cutoff
and
90A continuous discharge WITH a 75°C temperature cutoff.
Therefore, a battery system operating above the 40A non-temperature-controlled rating requires appropriate thermal monitoring and pack engineering.
The finished battery pack may have a substantially lower current rating depending on the:
- BMS
- Busbars/interconnects
- Nickel or copper thickness
- Cell spacing
- Cooling
- Wiring
- Connectors
- Fuse system
- Enclosure
- Ambient temperature
The cell manufacturer specification explicitly distinguishes these two ratings.
